Lobsters have an exceptionally sharp sense of smell—not through a nose, but through chemoreceptors on their antennae and fine sensory hairs on their legs. As fresh bait breaks down, it releases amino acids, oils, and blood into the water. These compounds disperse with the current, creating a scent trail that lobsters detect from a distance and follow upstream to the source—your hoop.

The Challenges

Through extensive testing, we identified three common challenges with traditional baiting methods:

1. Bait Selection
   
   There’s debate over what works best. Some prefer fresh or live bait, while others favor chopped bait that disperses scent faster. Frozen, prepackaged solutions like lobster logs are convenient and effective, and attractants made with premium fish oils and natural concentrates are also effective.
   
2. Ease of Use
   
   Most bait tubes and cages are difficult to open—especially when frozen—making it nearly impossible to refresh or add bait between pulls and trips. Adding scent or cutting bait inside is often messy and inconvenient.
   
3. Cost
   
   Bait is getting more expensive. It’s harder to find, more costly to buy, and challenging to reuse or save for the next trip.
   

The Solution

The Bait Master Bait Tube solves all three challenges. It’s engineered to accommodate all bait solutions—including fresh fish, frozen prepackaged bait such as lobster logs, attractants, or reusable frozen bait. The elongated grooves allow the user to refresh the bait by slicing through the base or end caps, releasing natural oils and blood while gradually breaking the fish into smaller, more effective pieces.

Quick-release caps provide easy access from either end for fast reloading. After each pull, simply slice through the bait or add more as needed. When finished, freeze the loaded tube for your next trip—just snap it back in and you’re ready to go. If you choose to discard the bait, remove the caps for quick and easy cleaning.
